The Park runs more or less north to south, between Nairobi and Thomsons Falls with a range of almost 13,000 ft. The Aberdare National Park is an important water catchment area providing water to the Athi and Tana rivers as well as parts of the Central Rift and Northern drainage basins. The Park has it’s abundance of animals; elephants, buffalos, bongo, black rhinos, lions and leopards while primates are represented by baboons, black and white Colobus and Sykes monkeys. Bird life is richly found in the Aberdare with a record of over 250 species.
You will spend the night at the Treetops Hotel. This hotel was originally built in 1932 and is famously known as the place where the then-Princess Elizabeth learnt of her father's death and ascended to the British Throne in 1952. You can wine and dine in full view of the big mammals and from the safety of four viewing decks and a rooftop platform. Shutterbugs can take close shots from two photographic hides at ground level! You arrive in time for lunch which will be served at Chui Lodge. In the afternoon, you will be taken to view some of the animals found in this region. Lake Naivasha lies approximately North-West of Nairobi on the floor of the Rift. Afternoon wind and storms can cause the Lake to suddenly become rough and produce high waves. You will find the lake and its surroundings are rich in natural bounty. The fertile soil and water supply have made this one of Kenya's prime agricultural regions. Forests of the yellow-barked Acacia Xanthophlea, known as the yellow-fever tree, surround much of the lake. These forests abound with bird life, and Naivasha is in fact known as a world-class ornithological destination. The waters of the lake draw a great range of game to these shores. Giraffes wander among the acacia, buffalos wallow in the swamps and Colobus monkeys call from the treetops while the lake’s large hippo populations laze around all day in the shallows. Sunsets are always stunning here. All meals and overnight stays will be at Chui Lodge. [FB] |
